Operations Internship - Summer 2020

Department: LC - Roofing & Siding
Location: St. Louis Park, MN

Lyman Roofing & Siding, a division of Lyman Companies, is seeking an Operations Intern for the summer of 2020!

This position will be based out of St. Louis Park, MN and will provide general Operations support in ensuring that the manufacturing department meets its quality assurance and scheduling goals.

Our Internship Program is customized to expose students to different areas of work while matching career interest with projects. This 12 week paid program features three work dimensions; fundamentals, other duties, and project work.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works with management to determine project material requirements and current inventory status to ensure resources are adequate to meet the company’s production schedule.
  2. Assists in the development of and monitoring of master production schedules for all products/ parts, and administering inventory levels within a lean manufacturing environment.
  3. Takes and compiles preliminary files and output and prepares material requirements to order job specific materials.
  4. Works with location management team to help drive quality and consistency in all facets of production and shipping.
  5. Escalates issues as necessary to ensure that forecast sales and unit production plans are properly integrated.
  6. Establishes metrics for all production areas within both manufacturing and warehousing job duties.
  7. Participate as a team member in a lean process improvement project.
  8. Adhere to established safety rules and regulations and follow all safety procedures; maintain a safe and clean environment.
  9. Peer-to-peer leadership qualities with go-getter attitude.
  10. Attend meetings, events, and other networking opportunities.
  11. Project work to be assigned by location manager.
  12. Complies with operational safety and security policies and procedures.
  13. Complies with Company’s attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
  14. Other duties as assigned by location management.
  15. Tasks are subject to change.

Job Classification and Compensation:

  • Interns earn a competitive hourly wage.
  • This position is considered full-time for the duration of the internship.
  • After 40 hours worked per week this position is eligible for overtime (1 ˝ times hourly wage).
  • Interns are not eligible for Lyman Companies benefits.

Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Full-time student who is in good standing with their college or university.
  • On track to a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in an accredited program in Business, Construction, Logistics, Operations, Supply Chain, or related fields.
  • Legally able to work in the United States.
  • Solid understanding of production and manufacturing process.
  • Partial to fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Other: Strong communication skills both oral and written. Ability to adapt in fast paced, changing environment.
  • Confidentiality requirement.
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs. on a random basis, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time, and bending or stooping. Ability to travel and perform according to the requirements of the position; valid driver license
