Operations Internship - Summer 2020

Location: Chanhassen, MN

Lyman Lumber, a division of Lyman Companies, is seeking an Operations Intern for the summer of 2020!

This position will be based out of Chanhassen, MN and will provide general Operations support in such areas as Production, Inventory Management and distribution.

Our Internship Program is customized to expose students to different areas of work while matching career interest with projects. This 12 week paid program features three work dimensions; fundamentals, other duties, and project work.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide back-up for Transportation Supervisor, Production Supervisor, City Desk, and Operations Manager.
  2. Assist Production Supervisor as needed in; production scheduling, batch processing and developing raw material staging plan.
  3. Assist with Project Management; including data collection, analysis and implementation follow-up.
  4. Administrative tasks to facilitate daily logistics of Semi-truck and Boom truck fleet.
  5. Assist Transportation Supervisor in; checking out drives, scheduling delivery medications and DOT administrative tasks.
  6. Monitor and expedite open orders as necessary.
  7. Print and distribute work orders as necessary.
  8. Peer-to-peer leadership qualities with go-getter attitude
  9. Attend meetings, events, and other networking opportunities.
  10. Project work to be assigned by location manager.
  11. Complies with operational safety and security policies and procedures.
  12. Complies with Company’s attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
  13. Other duties as assigned by location management.
  14. Tasks are subject to change.

Job Classification and Compensation:

  • Interns earn a competitive hourly wage.
  • This position is considered full-time for the duration of the internship.
  • After 40 hours worked per week this position is eligible for overtime (1 ˝ times hourly wage).
  • Interns are not eligible for Lyman Companies benefits.

Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Full-time student who is in good standing with their college or university.
  • On track to a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in an accredited program in Business, Construction, Logistics, Operations, Supply Chain, or related fields.
  • Legally able to work in the United States.
  • Solid understanding of production and manufacturing process.
  • Partial to fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Special skills required – ability to operate computer. Experience with Microsoft desktop applications and Windows. Strong communication skills and comfortable providing work direction.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Confidentiality requirement.
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs. on a random basis, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time, and bending or stooping. Ability to travel and perform according to the requirements of the position; valid driver license
