Sales Internship - Summer 2020

Location: Chanhassen, MN

Lyman Lumber, a division of Lyman Companies, is seeking a Sales Intern to join our team for the summer of 2020! 

This position will be based out of Chanhassen, MN and will provide generl support to our City Desk and Sales Office.

Our Internship Program is customized to expose students to different areas of work while matching career interest with projects. This 12 week paid program features three work dimensions; fundamentals, other duties, and project work.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Respond to customer inquiries regarding product selection, placement of orders, requests for prices and quotations, complaints and scheduling of deliveries and installations, and providing customer follow-ups.
  2. Initiates telephone calls to customers to verify delivery dates.
  3. Coordinates purchase and delivery of special products. Obtains information on pricing specifications, uses and availability.
  4. Codes and inputs customer orders pricing information and additional data into the computer system.
  5. Creates sales tickets.
  6. Coordinate pulling of material for customer and courier will call orders.
  7. Operates and balances cash register daily.
  8. Researches credits, returns and late payments as needed.
  9. Complies with Company’s attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
  10. Attend meetings, events, and other networking opportunities.
  11. Project work to be assigned by location manager.
  12. Other duties as assigned by location management.
  13. Tasks are subject to change.

Job Classification and Compensation:

  • Interns earn a competitive hourly wage.
  • This position is considered full-time for the duration of the internship.
  • After 40 hours worked per week this position is eligible for overtime (1 ˝ times hourly wage).
  • Interns are not eligible for Lyman Companies benefits.
  • Successful completion of an internship gives candidates prefernce when hiring! 

Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Full-time student who is in good standing with their college or university.
  • On track to a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in an accredited program in Business, Construction, Estimation, Sales or related fields.
  • Legally able to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Special skills required – ability to operate computer, calculator & cash register. Experience with Microsoft desktop applications and Windows. Good interpersonal and customer relations skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Confidentiality requirement.
  • Must be able to walk throughout yards, plants and offices.
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs. on a random basis, standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time, and bending or stooping. Ability to travel and perform according to the requirements of the position; valid driver license
